The Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers have never met in the postseason. On Friday night, that will change, as the Brewers will host the Dodgers in Game 1 of the National League Championship Series as betting underdogs. Dodgers at Brewers will be a close one.

Dodgers at Brewers NLCS Game 1 Odds & Expert Pick

Dodgers Favor Pitching Matchup

Clayton Kershaw will take the mound for the Dodgers on Friday night. Kershaw, who has been one of the league’s most dominant pitchers over the last 10 years, has a somewhat shaky postseason history. In his 25 appearances, (20 starts) Kershaw is 8-7 with a 4.08 ERA. However, Kershaw and the Dodgers are hoping that this start mirrors his last, as he threw 8 shutout innings against the Braves only allowing 2 hits. Kershaw will also be coming off of 6 days rest, so his arm should be fully recovered.

Craig Counsell has yet to announce his Game 1 starter. Many figures that Milwaukee will start Jhoulys Chacin. Chacin went 15-8 on the season with a 3.50 ERA. In his only career postseason start, Chacin threw 5 shutout innings against the Rockies. Chacin did struggle in his only start against the Dodgers this year, giving up 9 runs in 4 ⅓ innings.

If Chacin doesn’t get the nod, Counsell could go with either Gio Gonzalez or Wade Miley. Both Gonzalez and Miley are lefties, and this would counter the strong left-handed bats in the Dodger lineup.

Both Offenses Clicking

Offensively in the postseason, the Dodgers have been led by Max Muncy and Manny Machado. Each of them has hit 2 homers this postseason. The Dodgers have only hit .210 as a team, but they have drawn 27 walks. Look for Justin Turner to get his bat going at the top of the lineup to spark the Dodgers offense.

The Dodgers don’t want to depend on late-inning comebacks, as the back end of the Milwaukee bullpen led by Corey Knebel, Josh Hader, and Jeremy Jeffress have been nearly untouchable.

Dodgers vs Brewers is going to be a close one.

For Milwaukee, Christian Yelich has been dominant. After his homer against the Rockies in game 1 of the NLDS, the Rockies pitched around him, walking him 6 times. The Brewers need Lorenzo Cain to pick up the pace. He is just 1-12 this postseason. If he and Yelich are both hitting, it will make things tough on the Dodgers pitching staff.

Dodgers Lead Season Series

The Dodgers won the regular season series 4-3. With Milwaukee on an 11 game winning streak, and the Dodgers winning 7 of their last 8, something’s gotta give. This should be a very exciting postseason series. We’ll see if the dynamic arms of the Dodgers can cool off the hot-hitting Brewers.

Dodgers Win with Ace

When push comes to shove, it’s hard to bet against Clayton Kershaw. Sure, he has had some tough losses in the NLCS in the past, but the Dodgers lefthander is really good. Milwaukee is hot, but the break is going to cool them down. Bet on the Dodgers to win this game on Friday over the Brewers in Game 1.
