The Detroit Tigers open a three-game weekend set with the New York Yankees in The Bronx on Friday night. The Yankees (29-30) are in fourth place in the American League East, but their offense might finally be waking up. They just swept the Los Angeles Angels by a combined score of 23-11 in a three game set. The Tigers (30-29) are in second place in the carousel known as the American League Central, thanks to a five-game winning streak that just ended on Wednesday with a 7-2 loss to Toronto. Find the updated MLB betting run lines here.

Detroit Tigers vs New York Yankees MLB Free Picks

When: Friday, June 10, 7:05pm Eastern time Where: Yankee Stadium, The Bronx, NY TV: FSD, WPIX New York Radio: WFAN 660 AM / 101.9 FM New York Live Stream: MLB Odds: TBA Pitching Matchup: Mike Pelfrey (1-5, 4.76 ERA) (DET) vs C.C. Sabathia (3-4, 2.58 ERA) (NY)

Why should you bet on Detroit?

Miguel Cabrera’s bat is waking up big time. It was his double that tied the game on Tuesday night, followed by Ian Kinsler’s game-winning RBI in the tenth inning, to leave the Blue Jays on the short end of a 3-2 extra inning result. Ian Kinsler is hitting the ball well too. If the Tigers’ offense can come out of hibernation, there doesn’t seem to be anyone else in the Central who wants to win it right now, as the Indians, Royals and White Sox all keep handing the lead to each other. If the Tigers can get on a run, this could be a surprise year for them.

Why should you put your money on the Yankees?

The pitching matchup definitely favors the Pinstripes. C.C. Sabathia might have an iffy record, but look at hat 2.58 ERA. The Yankee run support has been dreadful for most of the year. Since he came back from the DL on May 20 (left groin strain), he has started four times and has a microscopic 1.13 ERA. He hasn’t permitted more than two runs in a game. The Tigers are starting Mike Pelfrey, who looked to be headed to the bullpen, or the minor leagues, but then he threw six innings against the White Sox on Saturday, holding them to two runs. He’s a fly ball pitcher, though, and the new Yankee Stadium is even more homer-friendly than the old barn was.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like Sabathia to mow down those Tigers all night long. I’m predicting a 6-1 win for the Yankees.
