Detroit vs Cleveland MLB Odds Preview

On Thursday night, the Cleveland Indians host the Detroit Tigers in the third and final game of their midweek series. The Indians (11-12) are in fourth place in the American League Central and beat Detroit (14-11, 2nd in the AL Central) by the score of 7-3 as they pounded the pitches of Justin Verlander (who, in his defense, may have been thinking about his new fiancee, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton). Find out more about the latest MLB run lines here.

Why should you bet on Detroit?

The Tigers get to see one of their favorite opposing pitchers on the mound when Trevor Bauer takes the hill for the Indians. He’s only in the rotation due to the injury to Carlos Carrasco, and he only lasted 4+ innings on Saturday in a loss to the Phillies as the team is trying to extend him from long relief to starting innings. A lot of the Tigers have hefty numbers against Bauer: Miguel Cabrera is hitting .294 (17 AB), Ian Kinsler (.368, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 19 AB), J.D. Martinez (.438, 1 HR, 4 RBI, 16 AB) and Jose Iglesias (.500, 4 AB) all have done well against him.

Why should you put your money on the Indians?

The Indians haven’t been playing well as of late, as they dropped five of six before beating the Tigers on Tuesday night, but they did sweep the Tigers up in Detroit two weekends ago by a combined score of 18-5. Francisco Lindor kept the Tribe’s domination of the Tigers going on Tuesday, as he hit a three-run home run, scored three runs, and only needed a triple to complete a cycle. He also made a couple of fine defensive plays to help seal the win. So if the Indians can get to Michael Fulmer, who is making his second start in place of the injured Shane Greene, they have a chance to win again.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Michael Fulmer pitched pretty well in his start Friday against Minnesota, permitting two runs in five innings, and I think he will do the same against an Indians team that sometimes fails to do much at the dish. I’m predicting a 5-1 Tigers win.
