Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals MLB Preview & Betting Pick

Posted by Peter Boysen on May 3, 2017 in

The Chicago White Sox (14-11) close out a midweek series in Kansas City against the Royals (8-17) on Thursday afternoon. The teams have split the first two games of the series, with the Royals winning on Monday, 6-1, and the White Sox winning Game 2, 6-0, on Tuesday. Before this series, the Kansas City Royals are coming off a 0-2 loss against the Minnesota Twins. They have not been as impressive as expected. For the White Sox, is a different situation. They come off a 2-1 series against the Detroit Lions this past weekend. Another fact, these teams met in Chicago over a week ago, with the White Sox taking every single game. So, it’s not strange that the White Sox are favorites in the MLB betting odds.

Chicago White Sox at Kansas City Royals MLB Preview & Betting Pick

When: Thursday, May 4, 2017, 2:15pm
Where: Kauffman Stadium, Kansas City
TV: CSCh, FSKC
Stream: MLB.tv
Radio: Chicago / Kansas City
MLB Odds: TBA
Pitching Matchup: Derek Holland (2-2, 2.17 ERA) (CHI) vs Ian Kennedy (0-2, 2.30 ERA) (KC)

Why should you bet on the White Sox?

Derek Holland has pitched well so far in his tenure with the White Sox. In his last two starts, he has permitted just three earned runs and eight hits in 12 combined innings, striking out 10, as the White Sox won both games. None of the Royals have more than eight at-bats against Holland in their careers, and none of them have ever taken him deep. The Royals have had an extremely difficult time getting timely hitting this season, and Holland has the stuff to keep their offense grounded while the White Sox find their way past Kennedy.

Why should you put your money on the Royals?

When the Royals beat Chicago on Monday, they ended a nine-game losing streak, as Eric Hosmer finally belted a home run in a game situation that was still competitive. He and Jorge Bonifacio both went deep with two-run blasts on Monday night, and Salvador Perez had a two- run single that dinged off third base. That sort of clutch hitting will return at some point for the Royals, and Ian Kennedy will get the wins that his ERA deserves. But will it happen on Thursday afternoon?

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Royals have a lot of talent, but I don’t see them breaking out against Holland on Thursday. I predict a 5-2 White Sox win.
