Chicago Cubs at Colorado Rockies MLB Spread & Betting Preview

The Chicago Cubs (16-15) visit the Colorado Rockies (20-12) in the second game of their midweek series on Tuesday night. The Cubs were swept by the New York Yankees at home over the weekend, including a 5-4 thriller on Sunday that went 18 innings, a game that saw the Cubs force extra innings with three runs in the bottom of the ninth, only to lose nine innings later. The Rockies won two of three over the Arizona Diamondbacks over the weekend, including a 5-2 victory on Sunday.

Why should you bet on the Cubs?

Despite the fact that the Cubs are defending World Series champs and the Rockies have been in the playoff wasteland for several years now, betting on the Cubs is a tough case to make. Sure, they have John Lackey on the mound, who was one of their best starters a year ago, but Denver is not a place where does well. He has started games there three times but has never gotten a win, giving up a total of 17 earned runs in that thin air.

Why should you put your money on the Rockies?

Colorado sends Kyle Freeland to the mound. In his last start out, against San Diego, he went 6 innings, permitting just three hits and one earned run. His key to success was throwing strikes early in the count, making batters make contact early, which meant that his pitch count was low enough to let him go into the seventh inning. None of the Cub regulars have ever faced Freeland — usually an advantage for the pitcher. Also, five Rockies have home runs off Lackey in their careers, and Gerardo Parra has a .500 lifetime average against the righty.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Rockies are off to a great start in the National League West this year, and I see that continuing on Friday night. I predict a 4-2 win for Colorado.
