Boston vs Baltimore Expert Prediction & Pick

On Tuesday, the Baltimore Orioles host the Boston Red Sox in the second game of their midweek series. The Red Sox (85-64) lead the Orioles in the American League East by three games after Sunday’s action. Both teams are streaking right now, as the Sox have won 7 of 10 while the O’s have won 6 of 10. Both teams have seesawed back and forth in the divisional lead over the course of the season, as both teams have lineups that pound the ball but pitching staffs that tend to give up lots of runs as well. Take a Look at the Boston vs Baltimore Expert Prediction & Pick

When: Tuesday, Sept. 20, 7:05 p.m. ET
Where: Camden Yards, Baltimore
Probable pitchers (away/home): Eduardo Rodriguez/Kevin Gausman
TV: MLB Network
Radio: Boston / Baltimore
Opening MLB Lines: TBA

Why should you bet on the Red Sox?

Rodriguez has not posted solid numbers for Boston, particularly as of late. However, the Orioles have not hit that well against him. Only two Baltimore hitters with more than three at-bats against Rodriguez have an average higher than .267 against him for their career, and only Adam Jones and Matt Wieters (one apiece) have ever taken Rodriguez deep. Feared O’s slugger Chris Davis is just 2-for-14 for his career against Rodriguez. If Rodriguez can pitch up to his potential in this game, the Red Sox should be able to get to Gausman this time around since they just saw him last week.

Why should you put your money on Baltimore?

Gausman still has a sub-.500 record for the season, but he was dreadful until the end of July. Since the start of August, he has posted a 2.06 ERA. He faced the Red Sox on Wednesday and threw eight stellar innings, scattering four hits and keeping the Sox off the scoreboard as the O’s eked out a 1-0 win. He only faced 29 batters in those eight innings. Given that Eduardo Rodriguez has not posted a win since July 16 and only lasted 2 innings in his last start, giving up eight hits and four runs against the Yankees, the Orioles should see plenty of pitches that they can hit, and hit hard.

My Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Gausman has been on fire for the last six weeks, and I like him to keep that trend up. The Red Sox will time him a little better since they just saw him, but I also like the Orioles to catch up to the poor pitching that Rodriguez has delivered as of late. I predict a 6-4 Baltimore win.
