Boston at Philadelphia Wednesday MLB Preview & Betting Tips

Posted by Peter Boysen on June 13, 2017 in

The Boston Red Sox (35-28) continue their midweek home-and-home interleague series with the Philadelphia Phillies (21-41) on Wednesday night. The Red Sox won the opener of the four-game set on Monday night, 6-5, in 11 innings, and have won three out of four after beating the Detroit Tigers two out of three in their weekend series. The Phillies have now lost six in a row.  It’s pretty much a no brainer in the MLB odds for this matchup, so let’s take a look at the latest betting preview for Wednesday night.

Why should you bet on the Red Sox?

Winning on Monday night in walkoff fashion gives Boston some momentum going into Tuesday, when David Price is on the mound, an ace that the Phillies definitely will struggle with. That should give the Red Sox that same momentum when the series shifts down to Philadelphia. Boston also gets to hit against Jeremy Hellickson on Wednesday night. His tailspin continues, as he has a 6.43 ERA in his last eight starts combined. He has permitted more home runs with his change-up (7) than any other pitcher in MLB. Philadelphia’s stadium is hitter-friendly, and if Hellickson leaves some fat pitches up, the Red Sox will make him pay.

Why should you put your money on the Phillies?

The Phillies also have a chance to put up some big offense against the Boston starter on Wednesday, as Brian Johnson takes the hill for the Red Sox. In his last start, Johnson permitted eight hits and three earned runs in four-plus innings. The Phillies have scored 10 runs in their last two games, which is an encouraging sign after they scored five runs in their last five games, but they need the bats to keep clicking if they want to get out of this latest swoon.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I think the Phillies will be able to get some runs off Johnson, but I think Boston will get plenty of offense too. I predict a 7-4 Red Sox win.
