The Boston Red Sox (17-15) wrap up their midweek series in Milwaukee against the Brewers (17-16) on Thursday afternoon. The Brewers won the series opener on Tuesday, 11-7, in a slugfest. Before this series, the Red Sox came off a 3 game series against the Minnesota Twins, winning it at 2-1. For the Brewers, it was the other way around. They’re coming off a series against the Pittsburgh Pirates, ending it at 1-2. How will this series wrap up?

Where: Miller Park, Milwaukee
Radio: Boston / Milwaukee

Pitching Matchup: Eduardo Rodriguez (1-1, 3.07 ERA) (BOS) vs Jimmy Nelson (1-2, 4.83 ERA) (MIL)

Why should you bet on the Red Sox?

Boston is starting Eduardo Rodriguez, who has put together a string of three straight quality starts, only to see the offense, the bullpen or the defense turn those strong starts into no-decisions. His 3.07 ERA is #2 among Boston’s starting rotations, and he has fanned at least one hitter per inning in those starts. The Red Sox are still waiting for their high-powered lineup to catch fire and start hitting like they should, most notably Jackie Bradley Jr. Their seven runs against the Brewers in Tuesday’s loss were a good sign, but with Rodriguez on the mound they shouldn’t have to make it to double digits in runs to win.

Why should you put your money on the Brewers?

The Brewers’ starting pitcher, Jimmy Nelson, is still an enigma. He threw three no-hit innings against the Pirates on Friday, using just 30 pitches, but then a lengthy rain delay forced the Brewers to go to their bullpen. Nelson has not picked up a quality start in any of his last four appearances. The offense will likely be the key for the Brew Crew on Thursday, as Eric Thames blasted his 13th home run of the season in Tuesday’s win, and Keon Broxton drove in four runs. But if the Red Sox send Nelson to the showers early, can the Brewers’ bullpen keep the game close?

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see the Red Sox lineup continuing their trend of strong hitting and getting to Nelson — and I see Rodriguez getting a fourth straight quality start. I predict a 6-3 Boston win.
