Yankee Stadium will play host to a huge American League East Division series this week, as the first place New York Yankees welcome the second place Tampa Bay Rays to the Bronx. New York is currently leading the Rays by two games in the standings. Heading into Monday night’s action, the Yankees are undefeated at Yankee Stadium with a 9-0 season record. The Yankees have cooled off from a red-hot start, going 6-4 in their last 10 games. Let’s find out how these teams arrive to this showdown so you can make your bets against their MLB odds.

MLB Yankees vs Rays Series Betting Preview

Yankees Banged Up

Injuries have hit the Yankees hard as of late. Giancarlo Stanton, Aaron Judge, and DJ LeMahieu will all miss the series due to injuries. That takes the top two sluggers in Stanton and Judge, and one of the league’s top hitters in LeMahieu out of the lineup. The Yankees will more than likely replace them with a combination of Tyler Wade, Clint Frazier, Mike Tauchman, Mike Ford, and Miguel Andujar.

The Tampa Bay Rays are once again winning with no big-name players in their lineup. With a combination of Brandon Lowe, Joey Wendle, Yandy Diaz, Ji-Man Choi, Mike Brosseau, and Willy Adammes manning the middle of the Rays batting order, Tampa Bay is producing enough runs to win 14 of their 23 games, and 8 of their last 10.

Tuesday’s series opener should be a good one, as Masahiro Tanaka will take on Blake Snell. Tanaka is slowly working his way back into form after he was hit in the head by a line drive in an intrasquad scrimmage. He threw four good innings his last time out against the Braves. In his 11 innings of work this year, he has struck out 11.

Snell on the Hill

Blake Snell has also been on an innings limit early on. In his last time out, he threw 5 shutout innings against the Red Sox. He is 1-0 on the season with a 2.08 ERA and 20 strikeouts. He threw three scoreless innings against New York earlier this season.

In the middle game, the Yankees will have Gerritt Cole on the mound. Cole will tentatively be opposed by Tyler Glasnow. Cole has won 20 consecutive regular season starts. He is 4-0 on the season with a 2.76 ERA. Cole has picked up right where he left off last season.

Glasnow has had a rough start to the season. Once a top prospect, Glasnow has electric stuff, but has been plagued by injuries. He is currently 0-1 with a 7.04 ERA. Glasnow has yet to go more than 5 innings in a start this season.

In the series finale, Tampa Bay will more than likely go with an “opener”, and he will be pitted to start against James Paxton. Much like Glasnow, Paxton has struggled early on. He has gained velocity on his fastball throughout the season, and he won his last start against the Red Sox. Paxton is currently 1-1 with a 7.04 ERA.

This series could be a big series to decide the American League East. We’re closing in on the midpoint of the season, and with fewer divisional games this year, every win against a divisional opponent matters. If Tampa is going to overtake the Yankees, now is the time, as the Yankees are missing their top hitters. This should be a fun series to watch!
