The Blue Jays have started to shake off their dreadful start, but they saw a five-game winning streak end at home against Atlanta in the series opener. The Braves have won three of four after a six-game losing streak, including that 10-6 result on Monday night. Will the series shift once both teams are in the North? Why should you bet on the Blue Jays?

It looks like Jose Bautista’s bat is finally waking up. In his first 33 games this season, he had just a pair of home runs, and he had a hard-hit rate of 16 percent. However, in his last five games, that rate has jumped to 31 percent, and he has hit three more long balls. Toronto sends Joe Biagini to the mound in an attempt to continue his transition from the bullpen to the rotation. In his second start, he hurled 68 pitches, and he should have a pitch limit of somewhere between 90 and 100 pitches. He has yet to permit an earned run in either of those first two starts.

Why should you put your money on the Braves?

Despite that poor record and lofty ERA, Mike Foltynewicz pitched well and dominated the Miami Marlins in his last start, showing a plus fastball as well as a mystifying change-up and a slider that made the hitters chase it. The Braves have also started to show some pop with the bats; in Monday’s win, Nick Markakis drove in three runs, and Freddie Freeman hit a three-run blast, his 13th long ball of the season. If Atlanta can get by Biagini quickly and into that Toronto bullpen, this could be a big night for the Braves.

Toronto has a powerful lineup once they start hitting. However, the Braves have shown signs of a strong offense this year too, and I see them getting to Toronto’s bullpen sooner. I predict a 6-3 Atlanta win.
