The dog days of August are here. With some very tight playoff races this season, every game is very important. In this week’s slate of games, we have some divisional matchups that could factor into the final divisional results. Let’s preview this week’s slate of games, and see what the MLB betting odds have to say.

Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – August 12th Edition

Tuesday, August 13th

New York Mets @ Atlanta Braves

The hottest team in baseball travels to Atlanta, as entering Sunday, the Mets have won 15 of their last 16 games. While on this streak, the Mets have climbed to within seven games of the National League East-leading Atlanta Braves. The Mets have also climbed to within a half-game of a Wild Card spot.

This will be a huge series for both teams. On Tuesday night, the Mets will have Zack Wheeler on the mound. Wheeler has been lights out as of late. Over his last two starts, he has thrown 15 consecutive scoreless innings. In his last seven starts, he’s gone 4-1. Wheeler will be looking to keep the Mets on a roll.

Wheeler will be opposed by Max Fried. Fried is 13-4 on the season. He has won his last four starts, with his last one being a victory over the Twins. In that game, he struck out 10 over 5 ⅓ innings.

The Mets hitting has been red-hot, led by Pete Alonso and J.D. Davis. The Braves have been led by Ronald Acuna. This should be a very competitive game for MLB Betting enthusiasts.

St.Louis Cardinals @ Kansas City Royals

The Cardinals are currently in 3rd place in the National League Central Division, but they are just two games behind the division-leading Cubs. They are also only a half-game behind the Nationals and Brewers for a Wild Card spot.

The Cardinals will be traveling across the state to Kansas City to face the Royals. The Cardinals will send their red-hot hurler, Jack Flaherty, to the mound. In his last six starts, Flaherty has a 0.94 ERA. During that stretch, he is averaging more than one strikeout per inning.

Kansas City is well out of playoff contention, and they are just trying to get to the end of the season. This is a game that the Cardinals need to win to keep up with the other playoff-contending teams.

Saturday, August 17th

Los Angeles Dodgers @ Atlanta Braves

The top two teams in the National League will be meeting for a big weekend series. The Dodgers will activate Hyun-Jin Ryu off of the Injured List to start this game. Ryu will be opposed by Mike Foltynewicz.

Ryu is one of the top candidates for the National League Cy Young award. His record is 11-2 with a 1.53 ERA this season. He has dominated the NL this season. His stint on the IL was more of a rest than anything else, so look for Ryu to be back on his game.

Foltynewicz has come back from his demotion to AAA and has been serviceable for the Braves. He’ll have a tough task controlling the tough Dodger lineup.

If the Braves can get Ryu to throw a lot of pitches and get to the Dodgers bullpen, that will be beneficial to their chances and your MLB Betting chances.
