MLB Expert Picks For The Los Angeles At Cleveland Match

Posted by Peter Boysen on June 12, 2017 in

The Los Angeles Dodgers (39-25) open a midweek interleague series in Cleveland against the Indians (31-29) on Tuesday night. The Dodgers have won four in a row, including a weekend series sweep over the Cincinnati Reds that culminated in a 9-7 win on Sunday. The Indians have dropped three of five but did knock off the White Sox on Sunday, 4-2. Why should you bet on the Dodgers?

Clayton Kershaw had a terrific start his last time out, leading the Dodgers to a win in an afternoon duel with Washington ace Stephen Strasburg. Kershaw threw seven innings, permitting just three hits and a single earned run while striking out nine batters. This is an interleague game, which means that the Indians don’t have much exposure to Kershaw — only four Cleveland hitters have ever faced him, and none of them have faced him more than four times. I like picking the National League team on the road in interleague play, because they get to add a designated hitter to their lineup, an advantage that they do not usually have.

Why should you put your money on the Indians?

The Tribe bullpen is their greatest strength this year — the inconsistencies in their pitching game have come from the starting rotation. Against the White Sox on Sunday, the Indians’ bullpen threw 3 shutout innings to seal a 4-2 win. If the Indians can get some good wood on a few of Kershaw’s pitches (even though most of them will be seeing him for the first time in their careers, and no Cleveland hitter has ever gotten a hit off him) and Trevor Bauer can come back from a rough start against Colorado last time to match his usual numbers against the Dodgers (1-0, 2.31 ERA, 11 IP, 2 starts), then the Indians have a chance.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

The Tribe are still trying to get to last year’s World Series form, and I don’t see them doing that against the Dodgers’ ace. I predict a final score of Los Angeles 4, Cleveland 1.
