Baltimore at Houston MLB Prediction & Betting Analysis

Posted by Peter Boysen on May 25, 2017 in

The Baltimore Orioles (25-20) open a weekend series down in the Lone Star State as they take on the Houston Astros (31-16) on Friday night. The Orioles have dropped four straight, including a 4-3 heartbreaker to the Twins on Wednesday. The Astros have won two of three against Detroit this week but fell on Wednesday, 6-3. So, the Orioles are still in a good spot, but they want to shake off those recent losses. But the Astros are just killing this season. Can Baltimore take down Houston on Friday night? Let’s see what the MLB lines say about that.

Baltimore at Houston MLB Prediction & Betting Analysis

When: Friday, May 26, 2017, 8:10pm ET
Where: Minute Maid Park, Houston
Radio: Baltimore / Houston
Live Stream:
Pitching Matchup: Kevin Gausman (2-3, 6.65 ERA) (BAL) vs Joe Musgrove (3-4, 5.63 ERA) (HOU)

Why should you bet on the Orioles?

Mark Trumbo has a .500 lifetime average against Houston starter Joe Musgrove, with a home run and 3 RBI. Manny Machado (.333), Jonathan Schoop (.667) and J.J. Hardy (1.000, 2 HR, 3 RBI) all are looking for some more hittable stuff from the Astros hurler. On the Orioles’ side, Kevin Gausman starts the game. His ERA (6.65) is fairly gargantuan, as his career ERA against the Astros (6.17) but he did get a quality start in his last time out.

Why should you put your money on the Astros?

Joe Musgrove has not pitched particularly well this season; opposing batters hit .306 against him this season. He has also permitted nine home runs on the season. However, the fact that the Orioles are also starting a pitcher with a big ERA means that we should see both offenses on display. The Astros snapped out of their funk over the weekend (when they were swept at home by Cleveland) and took the first two games in their series with Detroit. Yuli Gurriel continued his hot hitting with a homer in Tuesday’s win, and he was joined by Juan Centeno in going deep that game.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see both starting pitchers finding their way to the showers fairly soon, as this becomes a battle of bats and bullpens. I see Houston prevailing, 8-6.
