Arizona at LA Dodgers MLB Spread & Betting Pick

Posted by Peter Boysen on April 13, 2017 in

The Arizona Diamondbacks (7-3) look to continue their hot start to the season as they head to Los Angeles to face the Dodgers (5-4) in a weekend series. The Dodgers finish a midweek series against the Cubs in Chicago on Thursday after beating the world champs, 2-0, on Wednesday night. The Diamondbacks dropped two of three in San Francisco, losing 6-2 on Wednesday. Here’s a closer look at the MLB betting prediction for the matchup.

Arizona at LA Dodgers MLB Spread & Betting Pick

When: Friday, April 14, 2017, 10:10pm ET
Where: Dodger Stadium, Los Angeles
TV: SNLA, FSAZ
Radio: Arizona / Los Angeles
Live Stream: MLB.tv
MLB Odds: Dodgers at -155
Pitching Matchup: Zack Greinke (1-0, 2.31 ERA) (ARI) vs Clayton Kershaw (1-1, 3.46 ERA) (LA)

Why should you bet on the Diamondbacks?

Zack Greinke is pitching much like the ace that the Diamondbacks thought they were signing last year — but who disappointed for most of 2016. Against Cleveland, he picked up a win in his last start, going 6 strong innings and permitting just a single run. This matchup against Kershaw and the Dodgers, though, is just the reason why Arizona signed Greinke, to make them competitive in the National League West. The Diamondbacks were 6-1 before heading up to San Francisco, though, and the Giants cooled off those hot Arizona bats. Matt Cain picked up his first win since last August in Wednesday’s win for San Francisco. Can the Diamondbacks find their hitting groove again with Kershaw on the mound?

Why should you put your money on the Dodgers?

Clayton Kershaw dominated on Opening Day, hurling seven solid innings and permitting a single run on two hits, but in his second start the Colorado Rockies got him for four runs and eight hits in six frames. He’ll need to bring his best stuff, as the Dodger offense has not been scoring particularly well. In their two games in Chicago, the Dodgers have scored just four runs. With Greinke on the mound, will he revert to previous form and give up some big hits in a marquee matchup, or will he outduel Kershaw in their first ever matchup? It’s hard to see Greinke bringing the mental toughness to beat his former friend and rotation-mate.

Betting Pick and Final Score Prediction

I like what the Diamondbacks have done in the first two weeks of the young season, but I don’t see Greinke beating Kershaw. I predict a 3-1 Dodger win.
