With the first week of Wimbledon in the books, we’re now headed to the Round of 16. Even though we’ve had a few upsets, there are still many of the top tennis betting favorites left in the draw. Let’s preview some of the top matches in the Round of 16.

Let’s start with the Women’s draw.

2019 Wimbledon Odds, Preview & Pick for Round of 16

(7) Simona Halep vs. Coco Gauff

Gauff, the 15-year-old American, has taken the tennis world by storm. Coming through the qualifying rounds and now to the Wimbledon Round of 16. Gauff’s thrilling run has been the story of the tournament. However, she will now face 7th seeded Simona Halep. Halep makes her opponents work and plays defensive tennis.

If she can handle Gauff’s power and speed, she will advance. If Halep makes a few errors and gets frustrated with herself, she could be in for a long day. Not only will she be playing against Gauff, but the Wimbledon crowd will be fiercely backing Gauff.

(8) Elina Svitolina vs. (24) Petra Martic

Svitolina hasn’t played her best tennis at Wimbledon. She has overcome numerous errors to advance to the Round of 16. Martic has had to go three sets in all of her matches thus far. If Martic can capitalize on Sviotlina’s errors, she has the chance to advance to the quarterfinals.

(6) Petra Kvitova vs. (19)Johanna Konta

Konta is coming off of her upset of Sloane Stephens. Konta has played well as of late, making the semi-finals of the French Open, and the finals of the Italian Open. Kvitova has missed a good portion of the year due to injury but has played well at Wimbledon. She hasn’t dropped a set in this tournament. Konta will have her home crowd behind her, so that will make things even tougher for Kvitova.

(11) Serena Williams vs. (30) Carla Suarez Navarro

Suarez Navarro will take on arguably the greatest women’s player ever in Serena Williams. If Suarez Navarro hopes to advance, she will need to improve on her service game. She has lost ⅓ of her service games. Serena has looked dominant in her previous matches. Suarez Navarro hasn’t had much success against Williams, and with Serena playing well, look for Serena Williams to move on.

Now for the men’s draw.

(1) Novak Djokovic vs. Ugo Humbert

The Frenchman Humbert has been on a run thus far. However, he is now facing the #1 player in the world. Humbert will play tough against “The Joker”, but probably won’t have enough to defeat Djokovic. Djokovic’s game will eventually overwhelm Humbert.

Joao Sousa vs. (3) Rafael Nadal

Nadal has had a tough draw but has made it through unscathed. Having won the French Open and the Italian Open, Nadal would love nothing more than to win his third Wimbledon title. Sousa has had to work hard to advance. He has struggled with his serving, and this could be very costly against a player the caliber of Nadal.

(17) Matteo Berrettini vs. (2) Roger Federer

Berrettini has used his strong service game to advance to the Round of 16. However, he has struggled on his serve return. If Berrettini wants to defeat the legendary Federer, that must improve. Federer has eight Wimbledon titles and is playing well enough to claim his ninth. Federer has lost a set in this tournament, but other than that, he has played at an elite level.
