Two months of the baseball season down, four months to go. We’re a little more than one third of the way through the 162 game season. Here are some of this week’s MLB betting matchups.

Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – June 3rd

Monday, June 3rd – Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres

Aaron Nola started the season off slowly for the Phillies, but he’s come on as of late. In his last seven starts, Nola is 4-0 with a 2.50 ERA. Even with the slow start, he’s still 6-0 on the season with an ERA just over 4.

Nola will be opposed by Eric Lauer of the Padres. Although he has a 4-4 record with an ERA over 4, Lauer has really kicked it into gear lately.  In his last 3 starts, he has a 1.50 ERA, and he hasn’t issued a free pass since May 10th.

The Phillies are on top of the NL East, while the Padres are fighting for a wild card spot as the Dodger seem to be running away with the West.

Tuesday June 4th – San Francisco Giants @ New York Mets

These two teams are struggling, however this is an intriguing pitching matchup. Madison Bumgarner will be opposed by Noah Syndergaard. Bumgarner is rumored to be on the trading block, so that could affect his performance.

Both pitchers are under .500 with ERA’s over 4. Syndergaard’s once-unhittable slider is now very hittable. Bumgarner does have a career record of 6-0 against the Mets.

Both of these teams lineups are struggling to hit, so we could see a pitchers dual, or we could see the struggling pitchers that we’ve seen all year.

Tuesday, June 4th – Los Angeles Dodgers @ Arizona Diamondbacks

To start the week, the Diamondbacks are currently 11 games back of the National League West leading Dodgers. And to make matters worse, the Diamondbacks will be facing arguably this year’s top National League pitcher in Hyun-Jin Ryu.  Ryu is 8-1 on the season with a 1.69 ERA. In th month of May, he was nearly unhittable as he had a 0.59 ERA. The Diamondbacks offense hasn’t been tearing the cover off of the ball this year, so this will be a very tough matchup for them.

Wednesday, June 5th – Philadelphia Phillies @ San Diego Padres

Although both starting pitchers have almost identical stat lines, they’re each headed in different directions.  The Phillies Jake Arrieta will be facing Joey Luchessi of the Padres. Both pitchers have ERA’s of 3.96, and both have struck out 62 batters this season. Luchessi has come on strong in his last few starts. In his last four, he’s struck out 26 batters and has lowered his ERA by a run.

Arrieta is headed in the wrong direction.  He started off strongly, but in his last 5 starts, he’s 1-3 with an ERA of nearly 5.  It looks like Luchessi and the Padres have an advantage heading into this one.

Thursday, June 6th – Minnesota Twins @ Cleveland Indians

The Twins have the best record in baseball. Leading the charge for them is their home-run bashing offense, and their young ace Jose Berrios. Berrios is 7-2 on the season with a 3.27 ERA. He’ll be facing a light-hitting Indians offense.

Trevor Bauer will oppose Berrios. Bauer has thrown well at times, but hasn’t gotten a lot of support from his offense. He’s striking out a lot of batters, but only has a 4-5 record to show for it. He’s not near as dominant as he was last year, but he still has good stuff
