Always Dreaming came out of the mud at Churchill Downs to win the Kentucky Derby, and now he has his eyes set on the second leg of the Triple Crown, when the Pimlico racetrack hosts the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, May 20. There are a lot of solid contenders in this race. So let’s take a look at some of the horses entered in this race and the latest horse racing betting odds and predictions to win this leg.

2017 Preakness Stakes Betting Preview

Odds for the Field

  • Always Dreaming EVEN
  • Classic Empire 5-1
  • Lookin at Lee 10-1
  • Hence 14-1
  • Gunnevera, Conquest Mo Money 16-1
  • Cloud Computing 20-1
  • Multiplier, Senior Investment 25-1
  • Term of Art 33-1

Always Dreaming had a terrific finish on that soggy field to take the win at the Kentucky Derby. One reason to consider another horse, though, is that trainer Todd Pletcher does not have a lot of success at the Preakness. His best finish at Pimlico came in 2016, when Stradivari came in fourth place. Always Dreaming is a much more impressive than horse than Stradivari, though.

There are some who like Cloud Computing because some of the training he’s been putting in at the Belmont Park training course, which many trainers use to get their horses ready fro the Preakness. Cloud Computing has the swiftness to do well at Pimlico.

Another outsider that could surprise at Pimlico is Gunnevera, who has both speed and power. If the course is muddy once again, the Preakness can become even more treacherous than the course at Churchill Downs, and the end result could favor a horse who is strong and fast.

I like Always Dreaming on the basis of that huge finish at Churchill Downs and his impressive win in Florida earlier this year. However, if you like an outsider pick, I’d take Gunnevera because of his blend of strength and speed.
