The PGA Tour returns this week with a star-studded field at the 2019 Honda Classic, which tees off on Thursday. Tiger Woods isn’t in the 2019 Honda Classic field, but many of the world’s top golfers will compete at the PGA National Resort and Spa in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Defending champion Justin Thomas is the Vegas favorite at 5-1 Honda Classic odds, followed closely by Rickie Fowler and Brooks Koepka at 10-1.

Loaded at Top

While the most well known Palm Beach County golfer will not be playing in the Honda Classic, there are plenty of other locals who will be salivating to win their hometown tournament this week. Jupiter resident Justin Thomas, for one, will be teeing off this Thursday with every intention to repeat as Honda Classic champion. Thomas already has three top-3 finishes in 2019 and hopes to become the second back-to-back winner in Honda Classic history. The only other guy to pull it off was the great Jack Nicklaus back in 1977 and 1978.

Meanwhile, Wellington native, and former Cardinal Newman High School star, Brooks Koepka will be looking to finally do some damage at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens. The reigning PGA TOUR Player of the Year has never finished better than 26th over four Honda starts, but that has to change at some point right? He’s one of the game’s very best currently.

Fowler Looks to Win Again

Palm Beach Gardens resident Rickie Fowler, who won the Honda Classic in 2017, arrives on a high, having recently won the Waste Management Phoenix Open, a tournament famous for its rowdy atmosphere. The fan experience should be similar around the “Bear Trap” at PGA National this year, with the enhanced fan experience that’s been built into this already intimidating stretch of holes on the back nine. Fowler will be looking for some revenge after missing the cut at the Honda Classic last year.

Meanwhile, Luke List should be a strong favorite coming into the 2019 Honda Classic after losing in a playoff to Justin Thomas last year. List wants nothing more than to earn his first PGA Tour victory in Palm Beach Gardens.

Simpson Always Strong

Webb Simpson, a 20-1 long shot, should make a strong run at the title. Simpson has been playing extremely well to start the new PGA Tour schedule.

Webb Simpson is one of the favorites to win the 2019 Honda Classic.

In fact, he’s finished 15th or better in three of his five starts this season and enters this week’s tournament full of confidence, ranking in the top 20 on the PGA Tour in greens in regulation percentage (74.17) and scoring average (69.930). He has a much better chance to win it all than his odds imply, so he’s a target for anyone looking for a huge payday. Look for him to shoot up the 2019 Honda Classic leaderboard in a hurry.

The Field is Solid

The Honda Classic will feature 12 of the top 30 in the current FedExCup standings, so while names like Tiger Woods, Dustin Johnson, and Phil Mickelson will not be in the field, there promise to be big crowds, and big drama right down to Sunday’s finish.
