- When: Saturday, July 3rd – Wednesday, July 7th
Jon Fernandez (+325) vs Michael Rivera (-450)
- When: Saturday, July 3rd
The unbeaten lightweight contender Michael Rivera will take on Jon Fernandez in a co-main event of the Showtime Championship. Rivera has expressed his confidence heading into this bout, which is largely thanks to his improvement in the training camp, which should prepare him for should be the toughest fight of his career.
Rivera has 20 wins and zero losses to his name with 12 KOs. Fernandez boasts a 21-1 record with an incredible 18 KOs, which translates to a scary 82% KO rate. Still, the betting odds seem to favor the 23-year-old.
As promising as Rivera has looked in his relatively young boxing career, facing Fernandez definitely won’t be an easy task. At the offered odds, it’s hard to pass on the 25-year-old Spaniard.
Boxing Pick: Jon Fernandez
Chris Colbert (-600) vs Tugstsogt Nyambayar (+400)
- When: Saturday, July 3rd
This bout has the potential to go all 12 rounds, with judges eventually calling out a winner. Both Chris Colbert and Tugstsogt Nyambayar are excellent fighters, and while you could make a case for Colbert as the most likely victor, it’s not like Nyambayar should be overlooked.
Nyambayar is one of the most talented fighters on the scene. While he still has a lot of work to do before we can view him as a complete fighter, Nyambayar has done well enough for us to have faith in him.
Despite all that, you have to consider that Nyambayar hasn’t had much time to prepare for this fight, as it came on more short notice. Colbert, on the other side, has been far more diligent in preparing himself for this date.
As noted, this fight could go the distance, but ultimately, you have to favor Colbert over the 29-year-old Mongolian.
Boxing Pick: Chris Colbert
Steve Spark (+900) vs Tim Tszyu (-2000)
- When: Wednesday, July 7th Bout
Tim Tszyu was supposed to fight Michael Zerafa, but after the latter decided to withdraw from the bout due to COVID-19 concerns, Steve Spark stepped in. Despite the change of fighters, the betting odds didn’t shift by that much.
Tszyu is still priced as a heavy betting favorite, which makes sense. He has a deadly 77% KO rate, which might be lower than Spark’s 91.7%, but is still a more experienced and heavier fighter, which should work in his favor.
Spark isn’t to be underestimated, however. Since turning pro in 2014, he has been making a name for himself in the Australian boxing scene and has most recently beaten Jack Brubaker, who also fell to Tszyu.
On a more negative note, Spark will have to jump up a division to super-welterweight for this bout, which won’t do him any favors. Granted, he has stated he is confident of causing some chaos on Wednesday.
Tszyu has his eyes set on the world title as he carries his father’s (Kosta Tszyu) name, so the motivation to deliver should be there. Tim also has the needed defense to survive Spark’s strong punches, which should give him the needed edge.
As long as Tszyu can make it through the first rounds of the fight, closing out the deal with his KO power in the latter stages of the bout should come naturally. Take Tszyu to win and continue his remarkable boxing career.
Boxing Pick: Tim Tszyu
