2018 Can-Am 500 Betting Odds & Prediction

For Nascar’s last race of 8, they head to the desert of Arizona. The 2018 Can-Am 500 will take place in Phoenix this Sunday afternoon. This will be the last time these drivers take to the desert this season. In the first race at the track, drivers had serious issues with their tires. To be exact, in the spring of this year, five caution flags were waived during the race. All five of those were due to tire-related issues.

I expect to see similar issues this time around, except this go around, the drivers will likely see their playoff hopes burst with any tire that may fail them. With only two spots left in the chase for the cup, this race will get all the attention by the drivers remaining in the hunt as the betting favorites. Tires, engines, and bodies are all on the table if it means a chance to get in. With temperatures and stakes so hot, it sure will be entertaining. I just hope all the drivers remain safe and in one piece.

Pit Strategy is Key

Pit strategy will also be imperative to the winning driver, as the track has unique size and banking. It is a smaller track than Texas, but still smaller than Martinsville, but the pit road is smaller than the typical track. Getting efficient pit stops and allowing the driver to get out in front of the pack when reentering the speedway is imperative if you want a chance to take the flag at the end.

Chase Elliott and Ryan Blaney seem to be the stories in the sport for now. The two youngsters combine for only 44 years of age, which combined, they are younger than Matt Kenseth, currently the oldest driver in NASCAR. Elliot was in a major slump, going winless this season until he reached the playoffs, which brought him back to life in which he has led 344 laps in his last 8 races. To say it plainly, Elliot is peaking when it is most important. If not for this recent stretch of performances, Elliot wouldn’t find himself in relevance currently, but here we are.

Blaney has a similar storyline this season. Racing for the Wood Brothers, he found his spotlight at Pocono, winning there for the first time for the team since 1980. Blaney has not finished south of 23rd during this impressive stretch and also has earned five top ten finishes in eight races which leaves him in the current field of drivers left standing. It seems that they both need to win in the desert in order to advance to the showdown of the young guns in the sport is definitely something to watch this Sunday!

Martin Truex is one of the favorites to win the 2018 Can-AM 500.

Although it makes for a great story, I’ll take Martin Truex to defeat them both in this one as he has two top ten finishes in his last five events and has had a history of solid finishes at Phoenix. Of his last two appearances, he averages a fourth-place finish. He will be towards the top of the deck for most bettors, and rightfully so with +750 odds, making him the Vegas favorite.
